Day 1: Nazareth

After lunch  at an authentic Middle Eastern restaurant from the Druze people, we made our way to Nazareth and the town where Jesus grew up. It’s believed that when Jesus lived there the population was as little at 200 people. Today, it is home to about 120,000 people.  The Church of the Annunciation is the traditional sit where Mary grew up and it was here that The Word became flesh and Mary then ran to meet her cousin Elizabeth who was pregnant with John The Baptist.

There is also a church there dedicated to Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus and the carpentry work he did. After Jesus was 12 we don’t hear about Joseph again. It is assumed he died sometime before Jesus began his ministry.
